Socotra Island is a site of universal appeal, having been defined as ‘the most alien place on Earth.’ It is considered the jewel of biodiversity of the Arabian Sea, being a home to a plethora of distinct flora, fauna and endemic species and supporting a diverse marine life. Located in the northwest Indian Ocean near the Gulf of Aden, Socotra is 250 km long and comprises four islands and two rocky islets.​
